Al-Mutanabbi Street Starts Here at George Mason University

Starting at 4:00 pm please join the opening reception(s) celebrating the Al-Mutanabbi Street Starts Here DC 2016 Project! The progressive scheduled events will begin in the NEW Fenwick Library with the opening reception of:  “Artist Books from the Fenwick Library Collection and the Al-Mutanabbi Street Starts Here Inventory”.  We will then head over to the School of Art Gallery in the Art and Design Building for the opening reception of “An Inventory of Al-Mutanabbi Street Starts Here Artist Books” “ ABSENCE AND PRESENCE: A Printmaking Response to the Bombing of Al-Mutanabbi Street” and Michael Rakowitz: “The invisible enemy should not exist”.  At the same time there is an opening reception in the Atrium Gallery in Mason Hall with visiting emerging artist, Morteza Khakshoor: “What has become of your strength” who is exhibiting prints and drawings with another show “War Games” by Ayad Almissouri.

In addition to the profound exhibitions, poetry readings will take place at all three venues with esteemed poets Sarah Browning, Founder, Split This Rock; Zein El-Amine, University of MD Lecturer and WPFW, 89.3 FM host for Shay wa Naa Naa (Tea and Mint); and GMU MFA candidate, Danielle Badra.

A light spread of Middle Eastern food will be served.
