Ethiopia: Photography by Edward O Savoir |
April 20th.
The Ethiopian Embassy, 6:00 PM -- 8:00 PM. Ethiopia: an Art and Cultural Tour, featuring the photography of Edward O.Savoir. Following MAS' historic trip to Ethiopia in January for the Religious Festival of Timkat, views of historic sites in Lalibella, Axum, Gondar, and Bahir Dar, and experiencing the art scene in Addis, MAS will provide highlights of the trip, enriched by Savoir's photography. Tour participants present will be invited to comment. Mr. Savoir, a published professional photographer will show a superior body of work covering the famous "Historic Northern Route" of cultural Ethiopia and punctuating the magnificent Ethiopian landscape. Many from the Ethiopian cultural communities around the Greater Washington Area will also be invited to attend. We hope the results will be a rich and lively exchange. This event is FREE and open to the public.

Book Review: Margo Humphrey by Adrienne Childs |
|
Look for a book review Adrienne L. Childs, Margo Humphrey (the David C. Driskell Series of African American Art), Pomegranate Communications, (hard cover), 2009 in the current issue of International Review of African American Art and Artists.
Arguably among the great stone lithographers of our age, Margo Humphrey also is an expert, visual story teller. Margo Humphrey, the seventh volume in Pomegrante’s Driskell series, presents more than forty-five color plates spanning the artist’s progression from her early abstractions to her mature "sophisticated naive" style. The book’s author, art historian Adrienne L. Childs, joined Margo Humphrey in a talk on December 13, 2009 at the Millennium Arts Salon. The talk, “Ten Things to know about MargoHumphrey and the Making of this Book,”provided insights about the collaboration between artist and author.
Purchase a copy of the Review at Millennium Arts Salon, International Visions Gallery and other locations around the city.
