Philip Barlow - MAS
MAS Board Member, Philip Barlow has been selected as a member of the External Advisory Review Panel for the HAMILTONIAN ARTISTS. He joins a distinguished panel of artists and art professionals including Annie Gawlak of G Fine Arts Gallery, John Penny of the Maryland Institute College of Art, and Foon Sham of the University of Maryland College Park. This panel will be tasked to help in selecting the first group of ten Fellows for the Hamiltonian's 2008 inaugural season.

Helen Frederick of Pyramid Atlantic - Southern Graphics Council Award
Helen Frederick of Pyramid Atlantic will receive the Southern Graphics Council Award: Print Maker Emeritus at its 2008 Conference, to be held March 26-29 at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts Department of Painting and Printmaking. Artist Kerrie James Marshall will also receive a lifetime achievement award by the SGC. You are warmly welcome to attend the award event and/or conference. Dr. David Driskell
Dr. David Driskell has many distinctions as scholar, art historian, collector, curator, and visual artist and fine arts printmaker. Curated by Adrienne Childs, a retrospective of Dr. Driskell's prints Evolution: Five Decades of Printmaking is on view at the David C. Tour in Paris - Dr. Richard Long
Dr. Richard Long will be leading a tour in Paris, April, 2007. In addition to getting an Off the Beaten Path (tour name) view of Paris with the marvelous Dr. Long, the tour includes a seminar, Perspectives on the African Diaspora and French Culture with three foci: a visit to UNESCO to learn about the Slave Route Project; an informal session on African American writers and Paris; and an informal session on African American Visual artists and Paris. The cost, $1599 per person (double occupancy), includes air, hotel, and some meals.


African American documentary filmmakers
St. Clair Bourne, among the most prominent African American documentary filmmakers, made his transition on December 15, 2007 after complications from surgery. He was 64. Memorial services for "Saint" (as he was affectionately called) will be held in New York City at Riverside Church on Friday, January 25, 2008 from 7 pm - 9 pm. Please join us in celebrating his life and many groundbreaking accomplishments in the art of film.


Preston Sampson and Sheila Crider
Millennium Arts Salon and Pyramid Atlantic commissioned two prints by local artists Preston Sampson and Sheila Crider. These prints were created in conjunction with the MAS exhibition Dual Perspectives which featured figurative and abstract works by these two artists providing a "dual perspective" on these two visual art approaches. The prints, a fine chiene colle etching by Sampson and silkscreen monoprints by Crider are valued at $600. Funds from print sales will benefit these two organizations – the MAS Archive Project and Pyramid's Visiting Artists Program respectively.
